What's inside

The science, told straight.

Lion's Mane is one of the most-researched gourmet mushrooms in the world. Here's what's actually in it — and what researchers are still working out.

Hericenones

Natural compounds found in the fruiting body of Lion's Mane — the part we grow and powder. They're one of the main reasons scientists are interested in this mushroom.

Erinacines

A related group of compounds found mainly in the mushroom's mycelium (its root-like network). Researchers are studying both groups for their role in nerve growth factor.

What the research says (and doesn't)

Most studies so far are laboratory and animal studies, with a small number of early human trials. It's a promising area, but it's still early — so we'd rather tell you what's in the jar than promise what it will do.

Plus: it's a food

Pekepeke-kiore is an edible gourmet mushroom first. Fresh, it's mild and seafood-like, often compared to crab.

Good questions

Lion's Mane FAQs

What is Pekepeke-kiore?

Pekepeke-kiore is the Māori name for Hericium novae-zealandiae, a coral-tooth fungus native to New Zealand. It's a close relative of the Lion's Mane (Hericium erinaceus) grown overseas, recognisable by its long, coral-like spines.

Powder or capsules — which should I choose?

It's the same NZ-grown mushroom. Powder is flexible — stir it into drinks or food, about 40 serves a pottle. Capsules are the no-fuss option — 60 capsules, 1–2 a day, nothing to measure.

How much do I take?

Powder: one level scoop a day (a scoop is included in every pottle). Capsules: 1–2 a day. Always follow the directions on the label.

What does fresh Lion's Mane taste like?

Mild and seafood-like, often compared to crab, with a tender, stringy texture. You can eat it raw or cooked — it's brilliant pan-fried in butter.

Is it vegan and gluten free?

Our powder is 100% mushroom with no additives, and our capsules use a plant-based shell with no gelatin. The Daily Mushroom Duo powders are vegan and gluten free.

How fast is shipping?

We aim to ship the same or next working day from our farm. NZ shipping is free on orders over $75, and you can return unopened items within 30 days.

Our products are foods and dietary supplements, not medicines. They aren't intended to diagnose, treat or prevent any condition. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, on medication or have a mushroom allergy, check with your health professional first.
